Stainless steel – the FLSK water bottle’s material.
We love our FLSK water bottle. That is why we only use the very best material for it: stainless steel. It meets the highest demands in terms of weight (ultralight!), durability (basically unbreakable!), and function (insulating!). This alone is convincing, but stainless steel is capable of even more. Using the material is good for the environment and for your health, because it does not emit any harmful substances.
Designed by pros from the lid to the base and examined by experts: That is the FLSK. You can read about the components of the ultimate water bottle and why you can rely on the high quality of the FLSK here. We will also have a look at common materials for water bottles and their characteristics.
Few things get as close to you as your water bottle. Depending on how intensely you use it, a large portion of your daily fluid intake runs through its belly. Here, water or coffee comes into direct contact the interior walls of the insulating bottle. And usually has enough time for an intense exchange. Result: Everything you drink is subject to the influences of your bottle. Enough of a reason to have a closer look at it.
Are you currently using a water bottle, e.g. for sports? Then quickly check what material it is made of. When in doubt, you can always ask the manufacturer. There are four different possibilities for the production of reusable water bottles: stainless steel, Tritan, glass, and aluminium. Frequently, a layer containing bisphenol A also comes into play.
Tritan: This material is the newest as well as the most commonly used plastic for producing water bottles – because it does not contain any traceable bisphenol A, among other reasons. It is light and robust, but so far research on it has been limited: Currently, it cannot be excluded that it contains and releases harmful substances. Furthermore, the plastic is difficult to recycle – harming the environment in the long term.
Glass: Glass, in contrast, contains no harmful substances and has a neutral taste. The drawback: It is more fragile than all other materials. This means that it is not an option for many activities. Break-proof models are considerably heavier.
Aluminium: It is generally advisable to stay away from this. Scientists warn of a considerable health risk. To curb its poisonous qualities, a BPA-containing coating is often applied to the bottle’s interior. It remains questionable whether this makes the bottle less harmful.
Stainless steel: Stainless steel is stable and break-proof and therefore durable. At the same time, it is particularly light, and the bottle’s own weight is hardly noticeable. A stainless-steel bottle does not release any harmful substances into the drink and has a neutral taste. Additionally, it is very germ-resistant. Stainless steel is easily recyclable and thereby ecologically more sustainable than many other materials.
Conclusion: Glass is impractical, Tritan not sufficiently researched, and aluminium most likely poisonous. That leaves stainless steel. We think that stainless steel is the material best suited for the production of water bottles. And this is where the FLSK water bottle comes in.
FLSK – the high-quality stainless-steel water bottle.
Thanks to a combination of qualitative material and the unique VICC® technology, the FLSK is a true insulation miracle. And at the same time, a better alternative for you and the environment.
You can picture the structure of the FLSK as something like this: It has two layers of high-quality type 304 stainless steel with a vacuum between them. The interior of the bottle is also coated with copper. On the outside, the FLSK is lacquered in one of many great colours, the Classic models are equipped with a robust powder coating. This construction forms the basis of VICC® technology, which enables the extraordinary insulating capacity of the FLSK water bottle. The double-walled thermos made of stainless steel is also completely taste-neutral and free of bisphenol A. Oh, and it’s light and break-proof too. The FLSK water bottle owes all of this to stainless steel.
The lid also consists of type 304 stainless steel. Flexible silicone is used for the plug, thread, and seal, securing temperature insulation and leak protection at this tricky spot. This material is of course also taste-neutral and BPA-free.
